City of Culture

Warm thanks to all those who have raised aspirations as part of the bid by Stoke-on-Trent to be UK City of Culture 2021. It was not to be as the City received the news tonight. Congratulations to our sister city Coventry in the West Midlands region.

During the bid process relationships have been forged and deepened. Stoke’s bid has focused upon community and people – ‘together we make the city’. As a church for the city, Stoke Minster continues to be a place of meeting for conversation around community and culture. And as Paul Williams from the bid team has indicated, we’re committed to seeing how we deliver a programme of cultural engagement regardless.
